Hero's homecoming for World champ Jonathan Rea

Superbike star lands to big welcome at airport

By David Young

Friends, family and fans of three times World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea packed the concourse at Belfast City Airpost last night to give the racing legend a hero's welcome home.

The Ballyclare man, accompanied by wife Tatiana and his young family, flew in by chartered jet from the scene of his triumph at France's Magny-Cours circuit.

Jonathan's sister Chloe said the whole family were incredibly proud of his achivements.

"It's hard to put into words," she said.

"I'm really delighted for him - we're all over the Moon."

Chloe reckoned her famous brother would be looking forward to relaxing after his triumph.

"There's nothing he likes more than to come home and put his feet up with a cup of tea and a Hobnob," she giggled.

Among those waiting expectantly were the Houston family from Dollingstown.

David Houston said: "We're all massive fans.

"He's a great ambassador for Northern Ireland".

The bike mad dad said he'd even named his son after the rider. At his side was young Jonathan (7), and daughter Kimberley (14).

"He's a very special rider - one of the best in the world," said Kimberley.

"He's the best!" added Jonathan.
