Isle of Man TT: Steve Mercer undergoes surgery after sustaining list of injuries in crash with course car
Steve Mercer has undergone surgery in Liverpool following a collision at the Isle of Man TT on Wednesday evening.
The Maidstone racer was involved in an accident with the course car, following Dan Kneen's fatal crash during Superbike qualifying at Churchtown, which the course car had been attending.
As his condition remains critical but stable, Steve's wife Caroline has this morning (Friday) detailed the list of injuries he sustained in the incident.
"Just to give you an update Steve had surgery early Thursday morning for pelvic and leg injuries which went as well as the doctors could have hoped at this stage," she wrote.
"Other injuries include a broken ankle, heel, T12 vertebrae, a fracture to his larynx and damage to his neck which means he’s not currently able to breathe for himself without support.
"They’re keeping him heavily sedated most of the time to make him more comfortable whilst he recovers from his injuries."
Caroline went on to thank everyone who helped the family get to Liverpool to be with the rider so quickly and for all of the messages of support.
Race organisers ACU Events Ltd have confirmed an investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, Chris Petty is in Noble's hospital on the Isle of Man with a fractured ankle after an accident at St Ninians during Thursday night’s Superbike session
