Bruce Anstey, one of the most popular riders on the local road-racing scene, is to miss all of this season as he battles illness.
The 48-year-old New Zealander, who has raced in the colours of several local teams, is a much-loved figure on the grid.
His long-term partner Anny Ramsey revealed on her Facebook page that Anstey has 'tumours in his lungs, a tumour on his spine and a blood clot on his lung. He is awaiting a treatment plan. I doubt very much Bruce will see any racing this year, but we won't rule that out!"
The man known as the Flying Kiwi won at the UGP back in August on the Padgetts Honda RC213V and everyone connected to the sport locally hopes he makes a speedy recovery.
