Rea 24 points clear at top of championship standings after double victory
Jonathan Rea is now 24 points clear at the top of the World Superbike Championship standings after winning all three of this weekend's races.
The Ballynure rider won both races on Sunday to give himself some breathing space from Spain's Alvaro Bautista in second.
Rea took over Bautista at the top for the first time this season after winning Saturday's race.
He followed it up on Sunday by winning the early sprint race which was red flagged with three laps to go due to an oil spillage which caused a number of riders to come off their bikes.
Rea then won the second race at Donington Park to add an extra nine points on to his lead.
"I would have laughed if you had said to me before the weekend that I'd win three races here," Rea told Eurosport.
"I've had problems here before but I felt in good shape and I need to say a big thanks to my team because I had a great bike.
"I'm going to celebrate this victory when I get home tonight because you have to take stock of days like today."
