Vauxhall in for the joy of six at NW200

The International North West 200 motorcycle races, Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, is to have the support once again of Vauxhall for the 2018 event.

Simon Oldfield, Vauxhall’s marketing director, said: “The company are delighted to return as title sponsor for the sixth consecutive year. We are very much looking forward to reaching out to the thousands of motorcycle fans through our sponsorship of this great event.”

As the North West 200 moves towards its 90th birthday celebrations in 2019, the securing of the car giant’s continued sponsorship is a huge boost for Event Director Mervyn Whyte and his North West 200 team.

Whyte said: “The support we receive from Vauxhall is vital in running an international event, which attracts the best road racers in the world each year. The 2017 races culminated in a fantastic Superbike race battle between Glenn Irwin, Alastair Seeley and Ian Hutchinson that I’m sure is still fresh in fans’ memories. With Vauxhall behind us we will be aiming to hit those same spectacular heights next May.”

The Vauxhall North West 200 will again see a week-long range of festivities within the Portstewart-Coleraine-Portrush triangle leading up to the main race day, a week that will run from May 13-19.

Riders and spectators from around the globe visit the world famous North Coast with its spectacular backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of the most picturesque venues for a motorcycle race.

Riders expected to line up next year include Irwin, Seeley, Peter Hickman, Dean Harrison, Ivan Lintin, Michael Rutter — who debuted at the event as long ago as 1992 — Bruce Anstey and newcomers Tommy Bridewell and Richard Cooper for another cracking race meeting.
