William's perfect angle on road racing return

By Roy Harris

A new road racing season is underway with the Cookstown 100 curtain raiser today.

And if ever an image encapsulated the narrow margins that make this the most thrilling of high speed sports, it is of William Dunlop hurtling between the hedges in practice for today's main event.

Bike at 45 degrees, he hugs the roadside in complete control of the perfect racing line as he takes a bend at over 120mph, giving the trackside photographer a breathtaking shot. It is Ulster road racing in a frame, captured by award winning bikes photographer and author Stephen Davison.

Less typically, low sun forced the cancellation of two scheduled Cookstown races yesterday over the Orritor circuit.

In the only race to take place after qualifying, Ballymoney rider Tommy Henry on his O'Kane 600cc Yamaha won the Greenvale Hotel Senior Support 'B' race.
