Ireland relay team misses final spot

Ireland's women's 4x400 metres relay team finished sixth in their heat at the Olympic Stadium on Friday to miss out on a place in the final.

The quartet of Marian Heffernan, Jessie Barr, Joanne Cuddihy and Michelle Carey finished in three minutes 30.55 seconds.

The times was a season's best, but still over four seconds away from a place in the final.
