Alpha girls net double

Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games badminton squad members Sinead Chambers and Caroline Black of Lisburn's Alpha Club won the womens doubles title in the Carlton Irish National Badminton Championships in Baldoyle, Dublin, beating Dubliner Jennie King and Rachael Darragh of Raphoe 21-17 21-11 in the final.

Chloe Magee maintained her unbeaten run in the womens singles since 2007, retaining the title with a 21-13 21-14 win over Rachael Darragh.

Chloe (25), from Raphoe in Co Donegal, also maintained her unbeaten run since 2008 in the mixed doubles with her brother Sam, beating Jennie King and Alpha's Tony Murphy 21-6 21-9.

Sam Magee picked up his second trophy partnering Sligo's Jonathan Dolan to beat the young Alpha pair Ciaran Chambers and Ryan Stewart 21-13 21-16 in the mens doubles, and with champion Scott Evans a late injury withdrawal from the mens singles, Jonathan Dolan took the title with a 21-17 21-16 victory over Joshua Magee of Raphoe.

There was Ulster success in the Irish U-15 Championships, also at the Baldoyle Centre, with Rachael Woods of Alpha winning the girls singles and Alpha's Beth Stephenson partnering Clodagh Dunne of Leinster to win the girls doubles while Foyle's Kyle Magee joined Clodagh Dunne to win the mixed doubles.
