Bangor must stay at high level to land major title blow: Hastings
Revenge will be on the agenda at Ward Park today when Whitehead make the journey to face bitter rivals Bangor.
It will be the teams' second confrontation inside 48 hours, but the east Antrim boys will need no reminding of their last meeting. They trooped away from a stinging NIBA Senior Cup final defeat - beaten by a staggering 36 shots at Balmoral.
Hardly ideal preparation for a top-of-the-table clash in NIBA Division One.
Whitehead have been beaten on only two occasions this season - both by Bangor.
Although only four and a half points separate the teams in the table, defeat would certainly throw a spanner into the works of Whitehead's title defence - they have lifted the trophy four times in the last five years.
Bangor's former international skip Robert Hastings said: "We had a great Cup win in midweek, and it was great to bring the trophy back to Ward Park. It was a superb team performance - Whitehead conceded after 16 ends. But that game is now gone.
"Whitehead are a super side. They are the reigning champions, so I would suspect there will be a reaction. We'll need a similar type of performance."
Meanwhile, Belmont's slim hopes of regaining the Private Greens League Division One title will be scrutinised today when they welcome Ballymena.
The second-placed Belfast side trail high-flying Dunbarton by 12 and a half points and defeat would almost certainly torpedo their chances.
Belmont's Stuart Bennett said: "Although we have a game in hand, we're playing catch-up. It's vital we pick up home points."
