Bangor pool hosts major teen event

The cream of young water polo players from Ireland and Scotland will be in action at the Aurora Complex in Bangor this weekend when the under 15 and under 17 boys and girls teams of Ulster, Connacht, Leinster and Scottish Saltires compete against each other.

Phil Kelly. the water polo development officer with Swim Ulster, has assembled a talented group of people to ensure the smooth organisation of the event and put down a marker for the future promotion of this type of competition.

Backing for the weekend has come from Brian Reilly, Managing Director of Production Services Ireland who have offices in Dublin and Belfast.

His company has provided lighting and rigging for many TV shows, including Riverdance.

The captains of the Ulster teams are Ben Escott (boys under 15), Meabh McGurk (girls under 15), Caleb Bowden (boys under 17) and Anna Whiteside (girls under 17).

The opening games are at 5.00pm today when Ulster play Saltires in under 15 girls and under 17 boys matches.

Saturday is a long day with the action starting at 9.00am and running right through the day to the medal presentation at 7.45pm.
