Bangor youth events set to honour the late Tommy Kirk

The late Tommy Kirk, a water polo legend from the Donegall club in Belfast, will be remembered at the Aurora Complex in Bangor tomorrow at the inaugural youth tournaments (born 2002 or later).

The competitions are being organised by the Bangor Barracudas club and specially commissioned trophies will go to the winning sides.

Tommy, who passed away two years ago, was a formidable player, coach and administrator and sons Victor and Denver, who followed him into the sport, are hoping these new events will prosper.

The action starts at 10am, with both events being played on a round robin basis in matches of 2x8 minutes duration.

The participating teams are Bangor Barracudas, Cathal Brugha, Clonard and Clontarf in the boys competition and Bangor, Brugha and Donegall Diamonds in the girls.

The prizes will be presented by Tommy's wife, Lillian.

At 6pm, there will be a Mini/Maxi blitz for players born 2005 and 2007.
