Chloe Watson aims to finish season on a high in Jersey

By David Mason

Chloe Watson will hope to end the season in a blaze of glory when she features in next month's WIBC Women's Singles Championship at Jersey Indoor Bowls Club.

The 18-year-old Bangor girl has become accustomed to strutting her stuff on the big stage. She has already reeled in a gold medal in the British Junior Mixed Pairs Championship, but topped that by becoming the first Northern Ireland player to win the prestigious WIBC Under-25 women's singles title.

"I've had a great year and it would be great to finish it on a winning note," said the Belfast Indoor Bowls Club player. "It will be another big test, but I enjoy that type of challenge."

Watson will be joined in the women's section by Ann McKillop, while Ireland international pair John McCullough and Stephen Coleman will compete in the men's tournament.

McCullough and Coleman will attempt to follow Stephen Moran, who is the only Northern Ireland player ever to win the men's event - that was back in 2003 when he defeated Guernsey's Neal Mollett in the final.

In recent years, both Gary Kelly and Simon Martin have lost the decider against Colin Walker (2008) and Steve Allan (2013).

The competition will be played on April 15-18.
