Erne Anglers net chance to take on world's best

Erne Anglers will represent Ireland at next year's World Club Championship in Slovakia after winning the NCFFI Irish Club Championships hosted by Kingfisher AC and fished on the Killykeen section of Lough Oughter.

All fish were caught on pole and waggler tactics with catches consisting of hybrids, roach and perch.

On day one the Erne lads took an early lead with 13 points, just ahead of the host club on weight. The individual best weight of the day was taken by Paul Eyers of Erne Anglers with 18lb 15ozs.

Day two once again saw the Enniskillen club emerge victorious, this time with 11 points from four section seconds and a third.

Individual winner on day two was Tommy Dowd – also the top overall angler over the two days with two section wins – of Kingfisher with 22lb 11ozs.

The winning Erne Anglers team consisted of Mark Theedom (Ballycassidy), Jack Tisdall (Ballinamallard), Vincent Walsh (Raphoe), Paul Eyers (Monea) and James O'Doherty (Enniskillen).

The club qualifies to represent Ireland in the World Club Championship next June.

Meanwhile, the McFadden Memorial Fly Fishing Competition, in aid of Diabetes UK, will take place at Islandderry Trout Fishery, Dromore, on September 6 (10am).

Entry is £25, including a three fish plus catch and release ticket, lunch and boat.
