By Kirsten Elder

David Finlay Jr comes from a famous wrestling family, born in Northern Ireland but currently lives in Atlanta, America.

He is currently the only forth generation wrestler, he said: “I knew growing up this is what I wanted to do, I learnt a lot from by Dad and Grandfather who always have my back”.

His father Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay’s career started when he was only 14, there was a no show at the fight his father David Finlay Senior was promoting and he advised his son to take his chance.

Since then his career took off, famously taking on opponents Big Daddy and HayStack back in 1984.

His father, David Senior said: “He put on my boots which were about four sizes to big for him but he did it and gave them a fair fight”.

David Senior started off his generational family of wrestlers in the 1950s and 1960s.

Leaving professional wrestling behind him in the 1970s, he decided to train wrestlers.

He is the man who brought Olympic style wrestling to Northern Ireland.

David Junior has been surrounded by wrestling champions all his life and now it is his turn, he said: “I’m the current European Junior Champion, but this is only a stepping stone, I want to be the best and I want to be World Champion.”

His father Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay is now a road agent and works for the World Wrestling Entertainment.

See David Junior do what he does best on Wednesday 8 November in The Waterfront Hall, Belfast as part of The American Wrestling Roadshow.
