Gary Kelly takes brakes off to drive on

By David Mason

Gary Kelly marched into the semi finals of the AIIB Under-25 singles at Ballybrakes Community Stadium. The Ireland international was simply too hot to handle as he brushed past the challenge of Darren Atkinson and Robert Allen to book his place in the last four for the second successive year.

Kelly, who is the current holder of the title, will now face Stephen Kirkwood at the same venue on January 24.

"I'm delighted and relieved to be in the semi finals again," said Kelly, who will feature in the World Indoor Bowls Council's Under-25 singles at Ffrith Bowls Club, North Wales, tomorrow.

The 25 year old is joined by County Antrim's Stephen Coleman in Wales, while young Chloe Watson and Erin Smith will feature in the women's singles.

Holders Oriel made it through to the third round of the IIBA Men's Inter-Zone Championship by the skin of their teeth against North West at Limavady. It required a last bowl winner to edge out the home side and earn Oriel a trip to Northern on January 10.
