Giants sweat on captain Keefe for huge Cardiff clash

By Stuart McKinley

Belfast Giants face the possibility of going into Friday night's massive Elite League clash with the Cardiff Devils at the SSE Arena without captain Adam Keefe.

And if the league's Department of Player Safety come down hard on the 32-year-old he could also be ruled out of the second part of the top-of-the table double-header on Saturday too.

Keefe is under investigation after he was thrown out of Sunday night's 9-5 defeat away to the Fife Flyers. He was ejected 33 seconds from the end after officials deemed he was the instigator of a fight with Fife's Philippe Paquet and the game misconduct penalty carries an automatic review by the DOPS. They will now decide whether or not to impose a suspension on Keefe.

Losing Keefe for one of the most important matches of the season would be a big blow.

He has played a major part in a run that has seen the Giants suffer just three regulation time defeats in their last 24 games to close what was once a 15-point gap on the Devils to just three.

The Giants will go to the top of the Elite League table if they can beat the Devils inside 60 minutes in both games this weekend.

They will then have seven more games before what is potentially another huge double-header weekend with the Devils on the final weekend of the season at the end of March, which could decide the title race.
