Home is where the heart is as Sandy romps home at Drumbo

By Robert Fenton

Scroggy Sandy is a standing dish at Drumbo Park, having run up a winning sequence at the Lambeg venue before trying his luck at Dundalk.

He was beaten there after being crowded out early but returned 'home' for another brilliant effort over four bends on Saturday night, clocking 28.88 (525). Fast away from trap four, he moved out slightly on the run to the corner where he led round from Meadows Magic who got entangled with Trade Freddie, the pair coming down before finishing.

Over Par was also crowded out along with Liosgarbh Norie and Mucho Macho Man on the inner and it was the Man who came out of the pack to chase Sandy down the far side.

The result, however, was never in doubt as Sandy owned by Belfast's Marty Manning, stayed on well for a four and a half lengths victory in a sharp 28.88 secs. He gave Hillsborough trainer Ronnie McKeown a double on the night.

Ronnie's other winner came earlier, courtesy of Surprize Trip. Despite falling out of traps, he came good in the closing stages to land his maiden win over four bends.

Dance Leyla cut out the early running from Manilla Minx and Metric Matt with Pup further back. Turning for home, Surprize was still trailing a good three lengths before storming home, winning going away by a length from Leyla (29.38).
