Ireland come up short in World Squash Team Championships as Sri Lanka edge tight final
Ireland narrowly lost out in the Group 3 decider in the World Team Badminton Championships in Nanning, China, going down to Sri Lanka on a 3-2 scoreline.
Chloe and Sam Magee of Raphoe won a tough mixed doubles, and young Dubliner Nhat Nguyen continued his winning form in the men's singles for a 2-0 lead, but the women's singles and men's doubles went to Sri Lanka.
In the final women's doubles match, Chloe Magee and her Raphoe clubmate Rachael Darragh kept the tie alive by winning the second set 24-22 against Kavidi Sirmannage and Thilini Hendahewa, but lost the third and final set 21-17 after 80 minutes of play.
Ireland remain just outside the top-20 in the world rankings, and from Group 1, the semi-final line up will see China face Thailand and Indonesia take on Japan.
