Star of the Sea chairman Bill McCotter has hailed the selection, for the first time in a decade, of four Ulster players on to the Irish Under-17 panel.
Mchael Donnelly (Star of the Sea), Jake Calo (Phoenix), Ben Martin (Phoenix) and Jake McCotter (Star of the Sea) - Bill’s grandson - have been selected for the squad that will play against Scotland as Ireland starts the preparation for the European Championships next year.
Donnelly, Calo and McCotter have been enjoying a great year at schoolboy level having lifted the All-Ireland Schools Cup in January with St Malachy’s College.
Star chairman McCotter said: “This is fantastic news for Ulster basketball. The four lads can feel very proud and it just shows the hard work the clubs are putting in is paying off. It’s very encouraging for the future of the sport.
“The international experience they will gain at this level will be priceless for their development into senior level.”
