Kincraig Rory is on track for £10,000 Gold Cup run

By Robert Fenton

Skidrow Again and Kincraig Rory, separated by a length in the opening round of Drumbo Park's £10,000 Caledonia Smooth Gold Cup, clash again in tonight's first semi-final.

The former, handled by southern trainer Ian Reilly, prevailed on that occasion, but it may be a different story this time in what promises to be another mighty battle. Skidrow just got the vital first corner in front last week, being drawn inside Rory but now the latter has that advantage from trap five with his rival on the extreme outside.

Kincraig had two midweek trials before his initial run and was not thought to be operating on all cylinders and the week's rest should bring him on. However, Allen Agnew's blue dog has a top opponent in Skidrow and can't afford any mistakes. Also, the Northern Irish Derby winner Atitboy, while disappointing in the opening round, can't be dismissed from his favourite red box and this trio are taken to make the decider.

It's a toss-up between Rory and Skidrow with preference for the former who distinguished himself by reaching Wimbledon's English Derby final back in June at Wimbledon.

The other semi should see a big run from the Michael Taggart-trained Divis View, owned by Belfast's Dessie Gilroy. He's running at the top of his game, especially from trap one which he occupies here. Fastest of the first round winners in 28.51 secs, he'll lick the rails all the way round and with his trapping ability, should make all at the expense of Swift Iniesta and Taepot Hill.

Also on the card, is the final of the competitive Jackie McCann Memorial (525) and here the fast-starting Silver Lil who failed to hold on behind Tullna Bound last week, is worth taking a chance on. Nothing will beat her into the back-straight based on her brilliant semi-final split time (16.47).
