Magee siblings make it to last four of Irish International Championships

By Ken Nixon

Top seeds Chloe and Sam Magee from Raphoe are through to the semi finals of the mixed doubles in the AIG FZ Forza Irish International Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Stadium in Dublin.

The Northern Irish duo reached the last four with a 21-15 21-13 quarter final victory over Danes Carl Mork and Solvar Jorgensen, and they will play Michael Roe and Jessica Hopton of England for a place in tomorrows final.

Sam reflected: "We reached the final last year and hope to go one better and lift the title this weekend. We need to improve our world ranking as we approach the tough challenge of a Tokyo Olympics qualification year."

In the womens' doubles, talented 17-year old twins Rachael and Rebecca Woods from Lisburn's Alpha Club played well to reach the quarter finals but lost out to the number three seeds Nicoletta Bukoviczki and Daniella Gonda of Hungary after a very close first set, 19-21 10-21.
