Mulholland through to third final

By David Mason

Commonwealth Games hero Neil Mulholland maintained a winning trend by booking his spot in a third NIBA National final, this time in the pairs.

The Lisnagarvey man, a member of the triples team which won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games, will next week face Whitehead's Nigel Beggs in the singles showdown and then line out against his Lisnagarvey team mate Noel Graham in the fours.

The latest triumph came courtesy of a nail-biting 16-15 win over Bangor's Thomas Carson and Matthew Crawford.

Mulholland's Commonwealth team mate Marty McHugh and Barry Browne will also be involved in next week's finals. They stormed to an impressive 23-11 win over Lisnagarvey's Scott Jess and Marty Nelson in last night's other pairs semi final

Meanwhile, Andy Morrison last night defied the odds to lift the Private Greens League singles title at Fruithill Park beating Mark McPeak, 21-17 in the decider.

And, young Stephen Kirkwood turned in a majestic performance to claim a 21-16 win over Ireland international Stephen Shields.

RESULTS: Pairs semi finals: M McHugh, B Browne (Whitehead) 23 S Jess, M Nelson (Lisnagarvey) 11; T Carson, M Crawford (Bangor) 15 I Craig, N Mulholland (Lisnagarvey) 16.

Private Greens League: Singles final: M McPeak (Belmont) 17 A Morrison (Ballymena) 21. Under-25 singles final: S Shields (Ballymena) 16 S Kirkwood (Old Bleach) 21.
