Lisburn is ready to welcome some of tenpin bowling's top stars this weekend as it prepares to play host to this year's Senior Triple Crown.

The prestigious tournament, which features teams from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, takes place at Lisburn Bowl across the weekend, starting this morning.

The five teams, featuring both male and female competitors, will contest events in singles, doubles and team disciplines across the three days.

Lisburn Bowl was chosen by the Northern Ireland Tenpin Bowling Federation (NITBF) to host the event and it is set to be an action-packed weekend.

The home nation will be confident they can win the trophy, especially with two-time Commonwealth silver medallist Kevin Horton named in the squad.

He's joined by reigning NITBF Male Senior Champion and doubles partner Paul McCauley, with whom he won gold at the European Senior Championships, as a strong top pairing in the team.

Also named in the squad is NITBF Female Senior Champion Isobel Smith, whose husband Alan is also on the panel, as is Horton's wife Donna.

Rounding out the team are the returning duo of Sam Hull and Tony O'Hare, with the final member of the squad being debutant Ken Harrison.

Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Uel Mackin, will open the tournament this morning by rolling the first bowl of the day at 8.30am, while there will be an awards dinner gala tomorrow night at the Blaze Grill at Lisburn Bowl for all five teams.
