No tricks as Blenheim claims a classy win at Drumbo

By Robert Fenton

Blenheim Tricks delivered an early festive present to Helen's Bay owner Charles Martyn at Drumbo Park.

The black dog, a son of Christmas Box, showed his class with a brilliant 28.38 seconds run in the A2 final, claiming the £400 prize.

Handled by Ronnie McKeown, Tricks went off a hot 2/5 favourite and it was justified when he bolted from trap one, leading up from Lemon Donal who unfortunately, broke down coming off the second bend.

The race was over as a contest with Tricks striding away, finishing five and a half lengths ahead of Lemon Kelly with Playfield Mac third, a further three and a half lengths back.

And it was double-glory for the McKeown kennel on Saturday night when Boley Lass followed up her win from the previous week by going in again in fine style over 550.

Leading from the off, the white and black bitch, owned by Co Down's Patrick Brown, never looked like losing racing down the far side and finished two lengths in front of the staying-on Dens Hannah in a very notable 29.91 seconds.

There were some brilliant performances in the second round of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake at Shelbourne Park, Stop The World posting a fastest of the round 28.38 seconds.

Paradise Silva claimed a richly deserved classic title by coming home clear in the final of the Kerry AgriBusiness Irish St Leger at Limerick.

There will be an additional meeting in Dublin each week up to Saturday, December 20 to cater for Christmas parties.

Shelbourne will race for the next four Friday nights while Harold's Cross will race on four Saturdays.

It means that there will be two meetings in Dublin each Friday and Saturday.
