Local man James O'Doherty came out on top at the 2019 Fermanagh Classic Fishing Festival after a fine display.

The Enniskillen angler reeled in a 13.2kg catch from the Boa Island section, taking his tally for the week up to 71.87kg to clinch top honours and earn himself the £5,000 prize on offer.

O'Doherty needed to hold off some stern competition, with Sussex's Brian Nesbitt coming second having netted 43.86kg, while Ian Benton, also from England, came in third by hauling in a combined total of 36.71kg.

Classic regular Pete Bagshaw added a fourth-placed finish thanks to his effort of 36.05kg, and Manchester angler Michael Smith, who has been travelling to Fermanagh with his father and two brothers since he was a junior angler, finished in fifth position. Paul Boothby, another Classic regular, hailing from Penkridge in Staffordshire, rounded out the top six.

The Friday daily winner was Birkenshaw's Paul Clarke, who netted a 28.9kg catch for the £500 prize, with Manchester's Ray Thompson and Malcom Brown of Coventry completing the top three.
