PGL save their best for last to claim IBA title

By Alex Mills

Skipper Andy Kyle hailed his Private Greens League team-mates following their first success in the IBA Inter-Association Series since 2012.

Having got their campaign off to the best possible start with a commanding eight points win against a Provincial side that had lifted the title twice over the past three years, the PGL challenge appeared to have hit the buffers when they resumed on Saturday morning - falling to a shock defeat to the Bowling League of Ireland, picking up only two points, their second successive loss against the southern boys.

But the PGL's battling qualities surfaced in their final outing against their big rivals and title holders, the NIBA. They stormed to 21-shot victory, claiming a crucial seven-and-a-half points that guaranteed them the title.

"It was a superb team effort," said Kyle. "We undoubtedly reserved our best performance to the last."
