Red hot Ronnie hits back of the net for Shea at Drumbo Park

By Robert Fenton

Hillsborough trainer Ronnie McKeown landed a brilliant four-timer, including the two semi-finals of the Drumcrow Obama@Stud Puppy event, sponsored by Dunganon's Harold Ruddy, at Drumbo Park on Saturday night.

Ronnie has Robbies Dazzler and Stefans Dazzler in this weekend's decider for owner Annagh United striker Shea Campbell in the chase for the £500 prize.

Robbies was the more impressive. Fast away, the blue pup was never challenged in sauntering home by five lengths in 29.06 from Pretty Leah who ran on well from off the pace and will be better suited by an inside draw. Ballymartin Bolt qualified in third, another five lengths back.

The second semi-final was reduced to three runners which meant all qualified. Stefans Dazzler, a brindle dog, also led from the start in front of Drumna Beech and Educate. The leader won by three and a half lengths from Educate who was noted running on in the closing stages and two and a half ahead of Beech (29.17).

Ronnie had a smart open sprint winner in Clonleigh Boy who showed a great turn of speed up the inside to take a competitive affair. Beaten out at the 'lift' by Silver Lil and Flomur Mikey, his pace up the inside paid off as he was in control going into the turn where Lil was pushed wide by the challenging Ferniksy Express while Supabrights was bowled over.

The Boy held his advantage all the way home beating the unlucky Fernisky a length with Mikey a short-head back in third. The winner clocked a notable 18.13 secs.

Immediately after that, Talking Tactics made it four on the bounce. Running over 525, the black dog, owned by Helen's Bay's Charles Martyn, found himself up against it the previous week in defeat but enjoyed this easier grade. .

Tactics broke with Early Ace who was slighlty hampered and Talking made the turn ahead of Swift Mishka who like others, suffered from crowding. Into the back straight, Droopys Navas moved right. taking out Beaming Jan, leaving the leader to make his way home two lengths ahead of Mishka in 29.26 secs.
