Belfast Star must come through a mammoth double header if they are to progress to the final of the Champions Trophy this weekend.

Tomorrow afternoon Star are away to UCD Marian and should they triumph then it's a case of hitting the road immediately for a Sunday showdown with the All Ireland Super League champions Tralee Warriors.

Why Basketball Ireland decided to have the event in separate venues defies all logic but that is the scenario facing the winner of what should be another exciting clash between Star and Marian.

The Dubs knocked Star out of the National Cup at the semi-final stage and then repeated the win in the league two weeks later.

But, Star coach Adrian Fulton says he has seen enough to believe that his men can cause an upset and secure that long trek to Tralee.

"It's a win-win scenario. Beat Marian and we play the champions and if we lose I can finally start to see a bit more of my family!" quipped Fulton, who has transformed the club this year.

"It's a tough ask to win two big games back-to-back but we are ready to give it a real shot. We've got a hotel booked in Tralee and I really hope that we need to use those rooms.

"We need Mike Davis to give us a great game and the rest of the lads to chip in. We know we're up against it size-wise but if we can bring a lot of intensity I know we are capable of winning. It's going to be interesting to see how Marian respond to losing out on the league. We've had two full-on training sessions so the guys are relishing the chance of sealing that game against Tralee."

While Star welcome back Liam Pettigrew, they have a slight doubt over the fitness of point guard CJ Fulton who has struggled all week with flu.
