American Ben Marello has made an instant impact at Belfast Star who have surged to the top of the All Ireland Superleague over the past month but he insists teenager CJ Fulton is as critical as anyone to success this season.

Marello has been so impressed with Fulton that he believes the 17-year-old's potential is endless.

"If CJ keeps working hard at his game he is going to have a very successful career in basketball," said Marello as Star prepare for a crunch clash with co-league leaders Neptune in Cork tomorrow night.

"You put CJ into any Division One college side in the States and he will make all the other players look better. That's the ability he has - he has such a great understanding of the game for someone so young.

"I've really enjoyed playing alongside him because he is so quick to pick the right option. He knows when to go for it himself and also when to make the right pass. You can't put a limit on how far he can go."

Star, who have played a game more than Neptune, know how important a victory over the revived Cork men could be with the league so tight.

Coach Adrian Fulton said: "It's as tight a league as I can remember, it's very evenly balanced."
