Top US colleges set to compete in Belfast Classic once again

By Adam McKendry

The Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic will bring top level American college action back to the SSE Arena in 2019 after it was confirmed the event would return next year.

The three-day tournament, which next year will be played from December 6-8, sees eight colleges from Division I of the NCAA compete in the only games held outside of North America throughout the season.

The event, which was run for the first time last year, has gone from strength to strength, with this year's tournament being streamed across the USA on CBS.

Just over 14,000 people attended the action across all three days, with fans treated to fast-paced, thrilling action between some of college basketball's leading athletes that saw the University at Buffalo Bulls and the Marist College Red Foxes take home the silverware.

Off the court, the teams get involved in the community aspect as well, with players making school visits and learning about the history of Northern Ireland too, making it an educational trip for them as well as a sporting one.

The teams for next year's event, as well as ticketing details and more information about the tournament, will be released in the new year.
