Verrazano grabs trophy in second run at Drumbo

By Robert Fenton

Verrazano lifted the Dylan Thomas & DTSC Open unraced sprint, earning £600 for Dungannanon's Aiden Cullen in only his second run at Drumbo Park on Saturday night.

The win came after his semi-final conqueror Blame The Game did not line up in the decider after being sold for big money after his sensational start in 17.81.

Another nice pup who won his semi-final, Shale Ma Nonu, was first to show from the outside but Verrazano held his ground on the inner and snatched the lead coming off the first turn.

It was a good battle all the way home with Longrange Nuter also in the frame, but the winner had a length and a half to spare at the finish in 18.43 from Shale.

In another final, Newline Farrah found her best form to take the £400 Upcoming Greyhound Stakes sprint final for the Crossgar Have-A-Dream syndicate.

Handled by Downpatrick trainer Damian Maginn, the black bitch showed a good turn of foot to get into contention and take over at the turn, beating Nuthill Boy three lengths from Conghals Rose who was another length and a half back in third.
