Wins pile up for Cathcart as he seals dominant victory in Serbia
After picking up a win in Slovenia a week ago, Belfast's Owen Cathcart has continued his winning run by taking gold at the Serbian Open.
The 15-year old had an impressive win in the Cadet Boys' Singles in Otocec a couple of weeks ago, but this win was even more impressive than the last as Cathcart cruised to the same title in Belgrade without even dropping a game.
It's the Ulsterman's third gold in a Singles event on the ITTF Pro Junior Tour after he also won the Belgium Open.
Cathcart accounted for the Czech Republic's Jan Mokrejs in the quarter-finals 11-4 11-8 11-5, and then made his way into the final by overcoming Austria's Finn Luu 12-10 11-4 11-7 in the last four.
The final itself proved to be another one-sided affair as the Ormeau club man faced Simon Belik, another Czech, but easily swept past him in straight sets 11-7 11-0 11-5.
There was double success on the girls' side of the action as the host nation's Radmila Tominjak won both the Singles and Doubles titles in Belgrade.
Cathcart's attentions will now turn to Sharm El-Sheikh for the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open, which starts today.
