Kelly Gallagher hails Charlotte Evans' role in success story
Paralympic champion Kelly Gallagher has praised the contribution of guide Charlotte Evans, who is to take a break from the role.
Visually impaired skier Gallagher, from Bangor, won gold at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi alongside Evans .
Evans, 27, suffered a serious head injury when colliding with Gallagher, 30, in a training incident in Austria in January.
Gallagher said it had been a “weighty decision” for Evans but stressed that she will carry on competing.
“I know it has been a weighty decision for Charlotte to step away from competitive sport,” said Gallagher.
“Together, our success has had a positive impact for funding for all of disabled snowsport and brought about
a change in people’s perceptions of what an athlete and guide can achieve on and off snow.
“I look forward to continuing to succeed in the sport I love and wish Charlotte the very best.”
Evans, who intends to focus on coaching youngsters, added: “It has been an amazing experience and one that I will always treasure.”
