Brigante set for step up

Gordon Elliott is looking to step Carlito Brigante up in distance following his victory at Haydock on Saturday.

The stamina-sapping two miles at the Merseyside course held no fears for last season's Triumph Hurdle fourth as he got home by two lengths from Bocamix.

"He's come out of the race very well. We were very happy with him. It was a good performance. He's strengthened up an awful lot. It was great," said the County Meath trainer.

"We'll look at something over Christmas and will step him up in trip.

"He's more a staying horse than a two-miler. We'll try to find a race over two and a half miles for him in a month's time.

"He's definitely not a Champion Hurdle horse, he's more of a stayer."
