Downpatrick can be a Classic Place for Meade duo

By Ron McKnight

Downpatrick stage the second local fixture of the week with this evening's meeting. Trainer, Noel Meade enjoyed considerable success at Punchestown last week and his runner Classic Place can prove the one to beat in the opener.

Meade could also claim the King Hurdle with Fly Rory Fly. Bell Of The Ball, Littlestickofrubarb, Concience and My Betty form the short list for the mares maiden hurdle with the last named preferred.

Ashjan, Cairnshill, Presenting Julio all have claims in the Handicap Hurdle. Gordon Elliott has enlisted Jamie Codd for the mount on Presenting Julio. The Champion amateur has also been booked for Mullaghmurphy Blue in the hunterchase where Isn't She Lovely and Double Captain are the pair to beat.

Willow Grange gets the vote with Court Adjourned and Redclue holding each way claims. The concluding bumper attracts just six runners but still is complex.

Torrent des Mottes looks the likely favourite but Cluan Dara and Frankiefivefingers also hold solid claims while Elliott and Codd again team up with Penny James. Frankiefivefingers can offer the best value in the race.
