Forpady tackles Melling again

Forpadydeplasterer is the only Irish-trained contender for the John Smith's Melling Chase at Aintree on Friday.

Tom Cooper's 10-year-old was second to Albertas Run in the race two years ago and renews rivalry with Jonjo O'Neill's dual Ryanair Chase hero on Merseyside.

Queen Mother Champion Chase hero Finian's Rainbow is the headline act in the field of eight, though.

The nine-year-old tackles two and a half miles for the first time over fences, but did win over the trip as a novice hurdler. Nicky Henderson's charge took the two-mile Maghull Novices' Chase at this fixture 12 months ago and is sure to be a warm order to follow up his Cheltenham success.

Paul Nicholls runs both Kauto Stone, who will be reunited with Paul Carberry, and Poquelin, while the list is completed by Ferdy Murphy's Kalahari King, Peter Bowen's Pure Faith and Wishfull Thinking, trained by Philip Hobbs.
