Jackson back in winning groove

Shane Jackson rode his first winner since May when steering home 25-1 shot Barnlands Boy home in the Bet With The Tote Beginners Chase at Down Royal.

Jackson had only recently returned from over two months out after fracturing his left leg riding out on New Year's Eve.

He booted Barnlands Boy to victory by six lengths for owner-trainer Phil Redmond.

"That wasn't a surprise to me as I think he's a really good horse," said the Gorey-based handler Redmond, who has just five horses in training.

"He's won three point-to-points and in fact won two in a week. His last win was at Ballinaboola back in November when he took a winners' of two.

"He's been going very well at home and liked that ground today. The rain brought the ground more in his favour. He'll not run on summer good ground. "He's an out-and-out stayer. They didn't go that fast today, which helped as his jumping has been a bit iffy in points."
