Lightening goes for Cheveley strike

The supplemented Lightening Pearl is the sole Irish challenger in Saturday's Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Ger Lyons' impressive Round Tower Stakes was added to the Group One contest at the five-day stage and faces eight rivals.

The Richard Hannon-trained Best Terms bids to stretch her 100% record to five and lines up after notching up a brace of Group Two wins in the Queen Mary and Lowther Stakes on her last two starts.

She now goes for glory at the highest level and her opponents include Shumoos, who got to within a short head of her at Royal Ascot. The Brian Meehan-trained youngster opened her Pattern-race account in the Sirenia Stakes at Kempton earlier this month.

Shumoos is one of five reopposing fillies beaten by Best Terms in the Lowther at York. She was 10th that day with Hello Glory third, Angels Will Fall and Sunday Times dead-heating for seventh, and Lady Gorgeous ninth.

Angels Will Fall's trainer Charlie Hills has also declared Salisbury Listed winner Sajwah, while Miss Work Of Art completes the field.
