Luska gearing up for fences

Luska Lad is set for a couple more runs on the Flat before being sent over fences.

The multiple hurdle winner made a promising return to action last month and sticks to the level at the weekend in the Listowel Races Supporters Club Slan Abhaile Race for qualified riders, before going for one of the big staying handicaps.

"He goes for the mile-and-six race on Saturday and then we'll see," County Carlow trainer John 'Shark' Hanlon told At The Races.

"He had a cracking run first time back this year. A horse of Dermot Weld's (Galileo's Choice) beat him and he went on to win a Grade Three in Leopardstown a week later.

"He's in super form and he'll be the one they will all have to beat on Saturday.

"We'll see what kind of mark he gets. Maybe the November Handicap or the Cesarewitch, one of those on the Flat first, and then he'll go chasing.

"He's a brilliant jumper, but we haven't thought which way we are going to go with him.

"He's won 10 races over two miles. He can stay further, but I think we'll stay over two miles with him this year."
