Manchester United stars Downpatrick bound

Manchester United stars of the past David May, Lee Martin and Clayton Blackmore will be special guests at Downpatrick Racecourse for tonight’s meeting (first race 5.45pm).

The players are there as guests of Downpatrick Manchester United Supporters Club, of which May is president.

All three played important roles in Sir Alex Ferguson’s era of success while Martin also scored the winner for United in the 1990 FA Cup Final replay against Crystal Palace.

Downpatrick Manchester United Supporters Club are staging their annual dinner alongside the night at the races and are expecting almost 500 guests.

Club secretary Terry Holland said: “We’ve had the likes of Paul Scholes, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paddy Crerand over as guests in the past — even the Premier League trophy has been over.

“David May has been our club president since 1995, not long after he joined United.”

And the ex United players are in for a treat with a ‘Viva Las Vegas’ Elvis Show the highlight of the evening in hospitality. Tonight’s meeting will feature spot prizes for those turning up in Elvis attire.
