Mighty Micras can strike at tasty price

By Ron McKnight

Micras is the value bet in the Ulster Cesarewitch - sponsored by West Coast Cooler - which features on the final flat fixture of the year at Down Royal this evening.

Micras - 25/1 - gets the each way selection.

The Pat Fahy horse has run well in similar contests and is overdue success.

It's notable that Gordon Elliott has engaged Declan McDonagh for Presenting Julio's return to the level, the horse having excelled over fences since joining the trainer.

Irish Champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins has multiple entries, however his horses are only first and third reserve in the feature but worth noting if getting a run.

Boom Or Bush - a previous course winner - Nelson Road, Venezla and Neverrushacom all warrant consideration in an ultra-competitive renewal.

Kion gets the vote in the opener to account for Zeb City and Stewardess after finishing runner-up on similar going at the Curragh last time.

Shinko Princess, fitted with first time cheek pieces, looks the likely favourite in the maiden sprint, however preference is for Realt Rua and Court Queen which finished behind Voge at the Curragh with the first named filling second.

Vocal Music, Dragon Girl and Maunganui, along with debutant Dancing D Queen, make most appeal in the EBF Auction Maiden.

The Nursery Handicap is another tricky contest and Painting Pictures, with top apprentice Sean Davies in the saddle, could prevail if accounting for Vicky Cristina and Piper Bomb.

Greenpanda has been competing at a slightly higher level and has Botanical Lady and Indian Landing to beat in the Weatherbys Handicap.

Konig Hall - runner-up over hurdles last time at Kilbeggan - could supply the value bet in the Apprentice Handicap.

Mallory Heights, Lamh Ar Lamb and Lizard Point appear the main dangers.

Meanwhile, Churchill is the star attraction in a 10-strong field declared for the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown tomorrow.

This season's dual 2000 Guineas hero chased home Ulysses in the Juddmonte International at York but is a hot favourite to get back on the winning trail and provide Aidan O'Brien with an eighth success in this Group One event.

Down Royal tips: 4.05 Kion 4.40 Realt Rua 5.15 Vocal Music 5.45 Painting Pictures 6.15 Greenpanda 6.45 Konig Hall 7.15 Micras
