No luck needed for Bridle
Lucky Bridle led his rivals a merry dance in the Christmas Racing Festival 26th-29th December Hurdle at Limerick.
The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old is lightly raced over hurdles, and was campaigned through the summer on the Flat.
Sent straight to the front by Paul Townend, he soon opened up a sizeable advantage and despite being untidy at the fourth- and third-last, he was never in any danger of being caught.
The 2-7 favourite trotted home with his head in his chest, beating stablemate Shamar with any amount in hand, officially by 12 lengths.
Townend said: "He enjoyed that and being in front today, he wasn't a complete tearaway and stayed going well. He was unexposed over hurdles and pulled too hard the last day he ran at Punchestown."
There was a notable winner for Liz Doyle as Kauto Grand Mogol made a winning start over timber in the www.limerickraces.ie Maiden Hurdle.
The six-year-old is a half-brother to the mighty Kauto Star, and upheld family tradition with an eight-length success over Wexford Bridge in the hands of Brian O'Connell.
Doyle said of her 11-8 winner: "He has the same shape as Kauto (Star), but is a smaller version.
"He had a small setback last season and I ended up running him in more bumpers than I would have liked, to protect his novice hurdle status. He isn't bred for bumpers, though, and jumps so well.
"I was very impressed with the way he kicked again turning in and he's entitled to go for a Graded hurdle next.
"He could manage fences later in his career, but I don't know if he'd improve from his hurdle rating."
Philip Fenton sent out a winner as Ange D'Or Javilex (2-1 favourite) took the Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.
Fenton will meet with the Turf Club later this month, having been fined 6,000 euro and ordered to pay costs after being found guilty of possessing unlicensed animal remedies at his stables following a hearing at Carrick-on-Suir District Court.
He said of his 2-1 favourite: "That was grand and he jumped well. We fancied him in three bumpers, but he came unstuck each time - he was very good to win first time over hurdles today and looks a nice horse."
