Punchestown feature gets new backer

A new sponsor for the Punchestown Gold Cup has been announced with Tote Ireland backing the Grade One event.

Set to be run as Punchestown Gold Cup on April 25, the three-mile-one-furlong heat will be worth a total of 140,000 euros and has been mentioned as an option for 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Long Run.

Punchestown manager Dick O'Sullivan said: "We are delighted to welcome the Tote as title sponsors of the Gold Cup on Festival Wednesday."

He went on: "The race will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the Festival week and we were delighted to see that it remains a possible target for Long Run."
