Ryan Moore booked for Golden Spear Chester Cup bid
Tony Martin and Ryan Moore will team up with Golden Spear in the 188Bet Chester Cup on Wednesday.
The six-year-old has plundered a couple of big prizes in his career already but Moore will have to be at his best to chart a passage from stall 12.
He is the only Irish runner after Dermot Weld did not declare Zafayan with 17 runners lining up for the big race on the first day of the May meeting.
Owner Henry Ponsonby will be represented by First Mohican and Who Dares Wins, both of whom are trained by Alan King.
Nine-year-old First Mohican has been kept busy on the all-weather this winter and will be ridden by Hollie Doyle, while Who Dares Wins is the mount of Tom Marquand and returns from a profitable spell over hurdles.
Ponsonby said: " Who Dares Wins had a light season on the Flat last year, running just three times, but was useful again over hurdles when winning the Gerry Feilden at Newbury and finishing third in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.
"The Chester Cup has been a target for both these horses for some time."
Who Dares Wins fared better than First Mohican in the draw, with pair handed seven and 17 respectively.
The last horse to make the cut, Blakeney Point, bagged stall one.
Owner Dr Marwan Koukash was left to bemoan his fortune on Twitter after Angel Gabrial was allotted the worst draw of all in stall 19, with Duke Of Clarence in 15 and 2014 Chester Cup hero Suegioo in 16.
Last year's runner-up Nakeeta will aim to go one better from 10, while Hughie Morrison, who has started the season brightly with his stayers, will have his eyes fixed on stall 13 for Fun Mac.
Sir Mark Prescott's ante-post favourite Sea Of Heaven will need Luke Morris to find plenty of gaps from trap 14.
Isharah (stall five) and William Of Orange (four) are first and second reserve.
