Still right on Cue for a crack at Aintree

By Martin Kelly

Cue Card will run at Aintree next month after being ruled out of next week's Cheltenham Festival, which starts on Tuesday.

Cue Card had been due to contest the Ryanair Chase next Thursday. The nine-year-old won the race in 2013 but has suffered a late setback that keeps him out of the Festival for a second consecutive season.

Trainer Colin Tizzard said: "He'll miss Cheltenham but he should be okay for Aintree.

"He was making a noise and we had him looked at."

Cue Card was in line to contest the Gold Cup last season but he suffered muscle injury which left him sidelined since November.

The four-times Grade One winner has not been at his best since his return, having been well beaten at Exeter, at Haydock and in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

Ante-post favourite for the Ryanair is the Gordon Elliott-trained Don Cossack, with Ma Filleule next best on the list.

Cheltenham has put up the 'sold out' signs for next Friday's Betfred Gold Cup card.

There are no tickets left for the final day of the four-day Festival, although they are still available for the first three afternoons.
