Trial options for Battle

Call To Battle will be readied for one of next month's significant Derby trials following a fine run in last weekend's Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown.

The King's Best colt won two of his three juvenile starts and made a pleasing return to action by finishing second to Jim Bolger's Light Heavy.

The John Oxx-trained Call To Battle could head to the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial back at Leopardstown on May 13, or to Chester for the Chester Vase on May 10.

"He ran a good, solid race to finish second to a smart horse who was a winner on his previous run this season," said Oxx.

"Our horse was having his first run of the year and got carried a bit wide, but it was a good run and he looked like he was crying out for a bit further.

"We'll have to see whether we run him in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial. He could run there or he could go for the Chester Vase instead.

"He'll run in a Derby trial somewhere anyway and we'll see where we are. He's rated 105 and probably ran to around that or a little better on Sunday, but he's obviously going to have to step up again."

Call To Battle is available at 50-1 with Stan James for the Investec Derby at Epsom in June.
