Bath role for Lord MacLaurin

Former England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Lord MacLaurin is to become a non-executive director of Aviva Premiership club Bath.

He will be joined by Nick Varney, chief executive of Merlin Entertainments Group - which operates venues such as Alton Towers and Madame Tussauds - and ex-Barclays Capital managing director Chris Coles.

All three will attend their first board meeting later this month.

"With some major projects both in the pipeline and already under way, we felt it was the right time to introduce more expertise on to the management board," said Bath chairman Bruce Craig.

Bath's administrative staff have moved into the club's new Farleigh House headquarters, and it is hoped the first-team squad will join them next month when a new training pitch and gymnasium should be completed.

Bath, whose squad has been strengthened by the arrival of England captain Lewis Moody from Leicester this term, kick off their Premiership campaign away to Leeds Carnegie on Sunday.
