Bath sign duo

Bath have confirmed the signings of Ignacio Fernandez-Lobbe and John van der Giessen as second-row cover.

The West Country club have been hit by injuries to Scott Hobson and Peter Short, and their two new faces will provide some strength in depth at lock.

Argentina cap Fernandez-Lobbe has appeared in three World Cups and has plenty of Premiership experience after playing for Sale for four years before moving to Northampton in 2008.

The 35-year-old joins Bath until the end of the season while USA captain Van Der Giessen comes in on a three-month deal after leaving French club Albi at the end of last season.

Head coach Steve Meehan, whose side face Northampton on Friday night, said: "Both players will be a valuable addition to the squad at this time when we have injuries in the second row. They are both experienced players, who have played in a variety of leagues, and have really good attitudes. I'm sure they will fit right in with the squad we have here.

"Ignacio has played at the highest level for his country, and is a proven leader, so will be bringing some great experience with him, and John is a strong player, who has some very good lineout skills and is also athletic around the field."

One player exiting Bath is centre Tom Cheeseman, who has joined Newport Gwent Dragons on loan for the rest of the season.
