Baxter wants more

Exeter moved up to fifth in the Aviva Premiership table as they made it five victories in a row in all competitions with a 30-23 win over Wasps - but Rob Baxter still found room for improvement.

Chris Whitehead, Haydn Thomas and Phil Dollman crossed for Exeter, with Gareth Steenson kicking the rest of their points.

The Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter said: "When you get the three tries and you have a little bit of breathing space you are always a little disappointed not to get that fourth try."

He added: "Obviously with five minutes to go and 10 points up there is an opportunity - as you are unlikely to lose the game so you can give it a real crack.

"Unfortunately, how we went about it probably wasn't quite accurate enough. But to get three tries and be relatively comfortable for that last third of the game, considering how it was to and fro in the first half, I was really pleased.

"I'm massively pleased with the character of the players to come back from some of the hammer-blows - particularly the soft try, which was probably from a knock-on and a forward pass.

"Sometimes you see players in other teams looking at the big screens and think they have been hard done by and they fall apart for 10 minutes.

"But we went straight down the other end of the pitch and scored a try to even things up and that, ultimately was the making of the game for us. We just got on with it which is a great characteristic to have."

Wasps coach Dai Young said: "I thought we were lucky to come away with a losing bonus point.

"Certainly in the first half we were in the game but in the second half we never had any control, never had any ball, which didn't allow us to put any pressure on."
