Blues edge out Highlanders

Luke McAlister's boot kicked the Blues to a 15-10 win over the Highlanders in their Super Rugby clash at Carisbrook.

McAlister slotted five penalties from six attempts as the Blues retained the Gordon Hunter Memorial Trophy and extended their lead at the top of the New Zealand conference.

However, in a big blow for the Auckland side, McAlister limped off with an ankle injury seven minutes from the end.

Robbie Robinson scored all the Highlanders' points with a try, conversion and penalty.

Sias Ebersohn kicked 21 points as the Cheetahs shaded the Brumbies 47-36 in a thrilling contest.

With both sides securing their four-try bonus points before the half-time interval, it was the boot of fly-half Ebersohn that saw his side over the line.
